Race Results & Key Information

Happy Monday!  This week was very quiet on the racing front.  With that said, there were excellent performances for both men and women in spite of the climbing temperatures.  Below is a recap and as well as a few pieces of key information.

The 3 man team of MCRRCers Mark Neff (29:18) and Jean-Christophe Arcaz (29:29) and Howard County Strider Dave Berardi (29:44) won the 50+ Team USATF Masters National 8k Championship on June 1 in Williamsburg, VA.  Results were based on the average times of the top 3 runners for each team.  A warm, sunny morning made for less than ideal running conditions.

Another notable performance from the weekend comes from Paul Jacobson. On Friday he ran the Churchill burrito 8 miler (run from Churchill to Chipotle eat a burrito and then run back-- those burritos are the size of a human head!). Last year Paul set the course record in (55:20) but this year he had the temperatures and a delay in getting the food. He crossed the tape in 57:50 (impressive enough for a 15 minute win).

Miguel Perez finished the North Face Endurance Challenge D.C. 50 Mile run in 09:56:04.

For our females we have a solo race result. Cindy Conant continues her racing repertoire at the beach. She took first place for the females at Lewes 5-k with a time of 19:38.

Club Business Update:
New this year—Parks Half-Marathon Race Director Mike Acuna has incorporated a team competition into this race----in part for us!! This year, Parks is also the RRCA Championship Race. This should be a great event, so I hope we will have a great showing! It is Sunday Sept 8. Details on registration to come.

Safety:
A female runner was attacked and sliced by a man with a knife on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at approximately 11:00am on the W&OD in northern virginia. The Arlington County Police spokesman didn't have too many details, including whether the woman was alone. The attacker remains at large.

Please be mindful of your surroundings and try to run with others when feasible.

Have a great week!

Lisa Chilcote
